City of an intense historical and artistic past, in close relationship with its “cousins” Verona and Venice, it is the symbol of the Renaissance Middle Class.
It fell under the rule of different families until when, in 1404, it made the Act of Surrender to Venice. Under the rule of the Serene Republic, Vicenza acquired that unmistakable appearance that made it so magnificent, especially thanks to the great architect Andrea Palladio and his disciples and successors. Walking around the city you can admire the symbols of the splendour and magnificence of that period.
OLYMPIC
ACADEMY
The last building designed by Palladio (it was completed after his death in 1580 by his son Silla and the greatest of his successors, Scamozzi), the Academy can be considered one of the first "modern" theatres since it was especially conceived for staging plays. Neglected for ages, since 1935 the theatre has been given back its old splendour and it now hosts concerts and shows of very high level.
